There is a short story by Oscar Wilde called “The Sphinx Without a Secret”, Lord Murchison becomes fascinated by Lady Alroy. She is beautiful, seemingly rich and independent, respectable but mysterious. It’s the mystery that hooks him and, in the end destroys what could have been a once in a life time relationship between two souls who were meant for each other. Everyone needs a little mystery in their life, mystery implies adventure and adventure is exciting, exhilarating, memorable. Life is a serious of normal everyday happenings punctuated by the memorable. Like an exclamation point at the end of the sentence, those memorable events are as necessary as the everyday events that precede them.

In this age of information overload we can pick and chose where to look for mystery and adventure finding it even if we can’t get away from the mundane chores of everyday existence merely by turning on, tuning in, and seeking out what we’re looking for electronically.
